Balanced Dividends Blogroll Spotlight #4: Guy on FIRE

I first came across the concept of a blogroll several months ago. But I didn’t create or publish the Balanced Dividends Blogroll until a couple of months afterward. (Looking back, I have no idea why I didn’t do it sooner!)

There are many great sites within the personal finance / investing arena. Some focus on F.I.R.E. and extreme frugality, while others focus on advanced trading or investing strategies. If you’re looking for a niche or specific topic, it’s likely there is great content out there. It’s just about finding it – hence the appeal of a blogroll (or a massive, kick-ass directory like Rockstar Finance).

As mentioned on the Balanced Dividends Blogroll, I peruse these sites regularly for good content, perspectives, and ideas. The list is growing, as I find myself reading and learning more each week. I do read and visit many other sites, but these are the first that I review each day in my feed for new and insightful posts.

Balanced Dividends Spotlight #4: Guy On FIRE

Following our inaugural series post and our two subsequent spotlight sites, I wanted to highlight a site where I found something different from my typical approach and content with a different focus: real estate.

While we do have ~25% of our current net worth in real estate assets, it’s all passive and indirect. We don’t own any properties. I wanted to find a site that would diversify my perspective and way of thinking about real estate.

Fortunately, I found that entertaining, yet intellectually impacting, site with stories about something I have little to no experience or background in. You’ll find this and many other valuable things from Drew over at Guy On FIRE.

Why Do I Keep Going Back To Guy On FIRE?

Drew’s approach to Financial Independence (FI) is quite interesting to me. The focus on real estate – particularly directly owning and managing the properties – doesn’t seem it would work for me. But I keep learning new things. Drew’s monthly reports on his different properties reveal a lot of first-hand experience with real estate investments.

But Drew doesn’t only cover real estate; you’ll also find dividend updates – a topic a bit closer to home for me and other readers here at Balanced Dividends. Drew’s FI Time Saving Calculator is also very clever – as well as entertaining. I especially like the “NFL Football Seasons Saved by FIRE” calculation field.

Overall, I believe you’ll find something entertaining AND informative from Drew’s site.

Wrapping It Up

Have you visited Guy On FIRE before? If not, why are you still here? I highly recommend you checkout Drew’s site.

Readers, are there any other sites you’d recommend? Where do you find yourself spending your time? What have you done to progress your goals today?

  1. That’s an awesome idea highlighting a blog you find useful BD. I’ll also check out Guy on Fire, as I am interested in real estate investing. I bought my first house and looking to buy my second house next year this time. I’m pretty sure I bought my first house the retail way, but it would be nice learning about various strategies employed by the savvy real estate investor. Good post – short and sweet!

    1. Hey Glen –
      Glad you found it useful.

I’m trying to balance out the different types of posts in terms of length, content, and approach.

Good luck with your search for your second house as well. RE investing is quite interesting to me, too. More to come on this as well soon.

      Thanks again. – Mike
